Understanding the Ask Line, Spreads, and Commissions on FX Replay

When using FX Replay for backtesting and simulation, it's important to understand key market concepts such as the Ask Line, Spread, and Commissions. This article explains these concepts and provides instructions on how to enable and configure the Ask Line on the FX Replay platform.

What is the Ask Line on the Chart?

In trading, the Ask Line represents the price at which a seller is willing to sell an asset. On a chart, the Ask Line shows the asking price, while the default price usually displayed is the Bid Price (the price buyers are willing to pay).

Understanding the difference between the Bid and Ask prices is crucial for accurate trade simulation:

· Buying occurs at the Ask price.

· Selling occurs at the Bid price.

By enabling the Ask Line on your charts, you can better visualize true execution levels, especially when spreads are significant.

What are Spread and Commissions?

· Spread is the difference between the Bid and Ask prices. It represents the cost of entering and exiting a trade immediately. For example, if EUR/USD has a Bid of 1.1000 and an Ask of 1.1002, the spread is 2 pips.

· Commissions are additional fees charged per trade by brokers. Some brokers offer low spreads but charge a commission on each transaction.

Both spreads and commissions are critical in backtesting because they affect the realism of simulated trading performance. Properly setting them ensures your backtest results closely mimic live trading conditions.
